CVSA Releases 2025 Brake Safety Week Results

Inspectors in 52 jurisdictions throughout North America conducted 15,175 commercial motor vehicle inspections with a focus on brake systems and components for Brake Safety Week, Aug. 24-30.

CVSA Releases 2025 International Roadcheck Results

Commercial motor vehicle enforcement personnel in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. conducted 56,178 commercial motor vehicle, driver and cargo inspections on May 13-15 as part of CVSA’s 72-hour International Roadcheck inspection, enforcement and data-gathering initiative.

CVSA Transitions to New Leadership for 2025-2026

Maj. Erick McGuire with the Florida Highway Patrol is the new president of the Alliance. Sgt. William Alarcon with New Jersey State Police is CVSA’s vice president. Tpr. Robert “Beau” Wittkowski with the Iowa State Patrol was elected to the position of CVSA secretary.

CVSA’s Brake Safety Week Is Underway

In addition to the other brake components that are examined as part of a routine North American Standard Inspection, inspectors will also focus on drums and rotors, the emphasis for this year’s brake safety initiative.

CVSA’s Operation Safe Driver Week Is Underway

Throughout the week, law enforcement personnel in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. will identify commercial motor vehicle drivers and/or passenger vehicle drivers engaging in unsafe driving behaviors on our roadways and issue a warning(s) or citation(s). Warning and citation data will be reported to CVSA, and the results will be released in the fall.

Non-Compliance with English Language Proficiency Regulation Takes Effect as an Out-of-Service Driver Violation

Nearly 400 Commercial Motor Vehicles Removed from North American Roadways in One Day Due to Brake Violations

Of the 4,569 inspections conducted on April 22, 4,171 commercial motor vehicles did not have any brake-related out-of-service violations – 91.3% of the total number of vehicles inspected. Conversely, inspectors identified 398 (8.7%) commercial motor vehicles with brake-related critical inspection item vehicle violations. Those vehicles were immediately restricted from further travel until the violations were addressed.

CVSA’s Brake Safety Week Scheduled for Aug. 24-30

Law enforcement personnel in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. will conduct commercial motor vehicle inspections, educate drivers and motor carriers about the importance of brake safety, and provide brake inspection and violation data to CVSA.

FMCSA Issues Updated English Language Proficiency Enforcement Guidance Memo

Pursuant to President Donald J. Trump’s Enforcing Commonsense Rules of the Road for America’s Truck Drivers Executive Order, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) Board of Directors voted to add non-compliance with Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 391.11(b)(2) to the CVSA North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria, effective June 25. On May 20, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) released updated guidance on enforcing the English language proficiency requirements in 49 CFR § 391.11(b)(2).

CVSA’s International Roadcheck Is Underway

From May 13-15, commercial motor vehicles and drivers may be inspected by CVSA-certified inspectors at weigh/inspection stations, temporary sites, mobile patrols and other locations throughout North America to verify compliance with federal regulations.
