| Medidas adoptadas por el comité | It was determined that a malfunctioning ABS should not be an OOS item. There were two primary reasons for that decision. First, there are many trucks on the highway without ABS and they have the same braking characteristics as those with inoperable ABS. These trucks can stop safely and have been doing so for years. Therefore, there is no justification for calling inoperable ABS an imminent hazard. Second, an illuminated ABS warning light may be a signal that the warning system itself has failed, while the ABS is fine. This same decision was supported again and the Vehicle Committee does not believe that inoperable ABS should be an OOS item. Operating a vehicle with such a failure does constitute a violation under FMCSR 393.55. |
