Justificación o necesidad	¿Existe algún punto en el que las tuercas de las ruedas no estén suficientemente apretadas en los espárragos, lo que representa un peligro inminente? Si un elemento de fijación mantiene su par de apriete, tiene suficiente rosca. Si una tuerca se aprieta con rosca insuficiente, se aflojará o romperá rápidamente. Esto provocará una situación de elementos de fijación ineficaces, tal como se describe en la norma OOSC.

Medidas adoptadas por el comité	Insufficient thread engagement was considered in the original development of the OOSC. Early drafts of the criteria were consulted and the following was discussed. The first concern was that it speaks to thread engagement. This is the portion of the nut that contains the stud. If a stud does not come completely through the nut, the thing one sees is how much of the nut is empty or not engaged. To assess engagement, one must know how long a nut is. When engaged, the total length of tapered and some permanent washer bearing nuts is not measurable. To check accurately, the inspectors would somehow have to know how long the stud is. The action in 1983 by the CVSA Wheel Inspection Review Group removed the thread engagement item from the criteria. It was also discussed that this issued is not of primary importance when compared to loose or missing fasteners; conditions that are already detectable. This would be more of a condition for a Annual Inspection criteria. It was determined by the committee that thread engagement was not something to add to the OOSC at this time.
