| Medidas adoptadas por el comité | The committee added verbiage and an example to the inspection bulletin indicating a back seat or other interior component forward of the exit space does not always render it unusable. This edit will provide the necessary guidance to inspectors, consist with the rest of the guidance in the bulletin, so they do not need to reference FMVSS while conducting inspections. This issue was reopened for clarification on the added language. The bulletin was modified for clarification purposes and to remove duplicate language. ADDED LANGUAGE TO INSPECTION BULLETIN: NOTE: Rear Emergency Exit Door - In the case of a rear emergency exit door, a seatback or other interior component forward of the exit space does not necessarily render the exit unusable. When the rear door is opened, if the space behind the seatback or interior component is large enough to accommodate a rectangular shape 45 inches (1145 mm) high, 24 inches (610 mm) wide and 12 inches (305 mm) deep, an obstruction to the exit or a reduction of the area credited to the rear emergency door is not present. In addition, the space between the top of the seat (or other surface) and the roof must meet the unobstructed passage of a 19.7 x 13-inch (50 cm x 33 cm) ellipsoid. This allowance is considered, due to the fact people will be moving along an interior surface other than the floor if the vehicle is on its side or roof following an accident. |
