| Medidas adoptadas por el comité | The Vehicle Committee has previously addressed this matter. It was stated that questions had been received concerning the effect of ceramic clutches on fifth-wheel inspection. Ceramic linings are used on many trucks and are more "grabby" and harder to slip than organic materials. Still, drivers using them should be able to ease forward to show fifth-wheel movement if they use care and a higher gear. Inspectors must stand clear, however, and if the vehicle "bucks" recognize that the driver may not be doing so on purpose." Drivers must slip clutches when starting, at loading docks, when hauling on and off road, and during fifth wheel couplings. In doing these things and others they become accustomed to the way the ceramic material behaves. Conducting the fifth wheel inspection by using the clutch to "rock" the vehicle was not seen as an extreme condition. Therefore, the consensus of the Vehicle Committee was that the North American Uniform Out of Service Criteria inspection procedure would not be changed until a definite need to do so is given. |
