In the U.S., the initiative is scheduled for Jan. 13-17, 2025. Canada’s HTAI dates are Feb. 17-21, 2025. And in Mexico, HTAI is set for March 17-21, 2025.

Officers issued 2,712 tickets/citations and 3,228 warnings to commercial motor vehicle and passenger vehicle drivers for various unsafe driving infractions.

Inspectors discovered HM/DG violations on 576 of the vehicles inspected. Vehicles with out-of-service HM/DG violations were removed from roadways until those violations were corrected.

Certified inspectors in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. conducted 16,725 inspections on commercial motor vehicles as part of CVSA’s North American Brake Safety Week, Aug. 25-31.

Capt. John Hahn, of Colorado State Patrol, is the new president of the Alliance. Maj. Erick McGuire, with Florida Highway Patrol, is CVSA’s vice president. CVSA Class I Members and Class II Local Members elected Sgt. William “Bill” Alarcon, with New Jersey State Police, to the position of CVSA secretary. Col. Russ Christoferson, with Montana Department of Transportation, has moved into the past president role.

Commercial motor vehicle enforcement personnel in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. conducted 48,761 inspections during this year’s International Roadcheck, which took place May 14-16. Seventy-seven percent of commercial motor vehicles and 95.2% of commercial motor vehicle drivers did not have any out-of-service violations.

From Aug. 25-31, CVSA-certified inspectors will collect and submit inspection and violation data on brake systems and components, including brake linings and pads, to CVSA.

CVSA is pleased to announce that Jared Koester, representing the Fort Worth Police Department as the competing local member, has earned this year’s North American Inspectors Championship Jimmy K. Ammons Grand Champion Award, the highest honor for a commercial motor vehicle roadside inspector.

High school graduates Kinsley Barnes and Smriti Seshadri will each receive $5,000 toward their college education as the recipients of the CVSA’s college scholarship awards.

CVSA invited its law enforcement and industry/association members to participate in an annual five-day human trafficking awareness and outreach campaign. Participating enforcement and industry members took that opportunity to raise awareness and train individuals on the crime of human trafficking, indicators to look for and what to do when a victim of human trafficking has been identified.

From July 7 to 13, drivers exhibiting unsafe driving behaviors on our roadways, such as speeding, distracted driving, aggressive driving, following too closely, etc., will be pulled over by law enforcement personnel and may be issued a warning or citation.

Inspectors in 47 jurisdictions throughout Canada, Mexico and the U.S. conducted 4,898 commercial motor vehicle inspections in one day as part of CVSA’s brake-safety inspection and enforcement event.

Brake Safety Week is a commercial motor vehicle and driver inspection and regulatory compliance enforcement initiative, a brake-safety awareness and outreach opportunity, and a brake-related inspection and violation data-collection project.

Each year, International Roadcheck places special emphasis on a category of violations to spotlight certain aspects of the inspection process. This year, the focus is on tractor protection systems and alcohol and controlled substance possession/use.

Throughout Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement personnel in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. will be on the lookout for commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in unsafe driving behaviors.

Certified commercial motor vehicle enforcement personnel utilize the out-of-service criteria to determine whether or not drivers or vehicles present an imminent hazard and should be placed out of service. The federal regulations, together with CVSA’s out-of-service criteria, provide the standards that drivers, motor carriers and law enforcement personnel use to ensure the commercial motor vehicles and professional drivers operating on North America’s roadways are safe and compliant.

Mexico’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation has prioritized participating in this annual educational and outreach effort. Its goals are to raise awareness, provide training, and disseminate information about human trafficking identification and prevention to commercial motor vehicle drivers, administrative staff, public servants and the public.
