1) Arbres de transmission / arbres intermédiaires, paliers de suspension et support des joints universels.

Justification ou besoin

Lors de plusieurs inspections CVSA de niveau I, il m'est arrivé, en poussant ou en tirant, de remarquer par hasard un boulon desserré ou même manquant sur un joint universel, et parfois l'arbre de transmission est sur le point de tomber à cause d'une défaillance du palier ou du support. Une fois libérés, ces éléments deviennent des projectiles et, d'expérience, je sais qu'ils ont causé des accidents avec blessures.

Demande d’action

Veuillez envisager d'ajouter ces éléments aux critères de mise hors service, car une fois découverts, je pense qu'ils doivent être corrigés immédiatement.

Mesures prises par le comité

An Adhoc committee was formed to deal with the development of OOSC for Drivelines/Driveshafts. Videos were shown of conditions found roadside where a bearing carrier was either loose or the bearings deteriorated so badly it allowed for the driveshaft to be moved vertically. Industry attendees supplied information related to roadside incidents where a driveshaft had become detached and crash data was presented from some enforcement representatives at an earlier meeting. Draft language was developed with industry input and was reviewed directly with members of the Technology and Maintenance Council. This language was further edited to the draft version presented at this meeting. It was mentioned that an inspection bulletin will need to be developed and the Level I and Level V procedure will be updated to include information if this OOSC is adopted. This is not an item that has been inspected in the past and it will be a training issue that needs to be addressed.

The committee unanimously voted to add the OOS criteria for Driveline/Driveshaft as follows:

5.DRIVELINE/DRIVESHAFT

a.Yoke Ends (includes Slip Yoke, Yoke Shaft, Tube Yoke and End Fitting Yoke)

(1)Any visible crack in a yoke end.

(2)Any yoke mounting hardware loose (with hand pressure only), broken or missing.

(3)Any horizontal or vertical movement of slip joint yoke shaft of greater than ½ inch (12.8 mm), with hand pressure only.

(4)Any loose, broken or missing end fitting fastener. (Also see 3. b. (1)). b.Universal Joint

1) Any independent vertical movement between opposing yoke ends greater than 1/8” (3.2mm), with hand pressure only.

(2)Any missing universal joint bearing cap with bearings visible (Also see 3.b. (1)).

(3)Any missing, broken or loose (with hand pressure only) universal joint bearing cap or bolt. c.Center Bearing (Carrier Bearing)

(1)Any broken or loose center bearing bracket, bracket bolts or mounting hardware.

(2)Any center bearing bracket crack equaling 50% or more of the original bracket width.

(3)More than 1/2 inch (12.8 mm) vertical movement (with hand pressure only) of the shaft in the center bearing carrier.

d. Drive Shaft Tube

(1)Any original metal crack in the shaft tube greater than ¼ inch (6.4mm) in length.

2)Obvious cracked weld at shaft tube end.

(3) Any shaft tube with obvious twist.

The motion was also passed by the Executive Committee.

It was further presented at Executive Committee, that this item, if adopted, does not fit under any of the current Critical Inspection Item, therefore, Operational Policy 5 will need to be edited to amend the Critical Inspection Item List. Due to the restructure of the OOSC a renumbering of the sections will be required. Due to this requirement, it is suggested that “Securement of Cargo” be re-titled “Cargo Securement” to reflect common terminology and reordered in the criteria, changing the outline of the criteria as follows:
