| Medidas adoptadas por el comité | New legislation will eliminate the presently sanctioned overloading of these tires. The FMCSR 393.42(b)(2) requires that any vehicle being towed in a driveaway-towaway operation must have sufficient operative brakes as may be necessary to ensure compliance with the performance standards in 393.52. This provides the braking mandate sought in this issue. Regulatory changes are necessary to achieve the tire objectives. The members were unaware of a significant accident related to brakes on manufactured homes. Therefore, there was little on which to base a petition for change. If the committee chould show braking realted accidents were occuring, problems most memebers indicated they are familiar with involved axle/bearing failure. This allegedly stems from the manufacturers failure to remanufacture axles as they should. The committee determined that if there is a general concern about manufactured-home transportation in CVSA, the Alliance should seek accident experience input from its members. That material would provide the basis for suggesting action to FHWS/OMC. Without such concern there is no need to pursue the issue at this time. |
