| Medidas adoptadas por el comité | This issue request was requesting that non-manufactured holes in the service portion of the brake chamber be included in the 20% criterion and have the severely corroded service brake chambers that open and close upon application as a stand-alone out of service condition. The heavily corroded brake is already 1 defect towards the current 20%, but only when it is so corroded that it is loose. A corroded hole that is not leaking or causing the chamber to move will not be a violation or included in the 20% currently. There were concerns about the discretion by inspectors and that the only thing in the OOSC should be conditions that are dangerous to the public. Discussion was around whether it was an officer safety hazard. Brake manufacturers reminded the committee that there is not a lot of force in service brake side spring and it is not to be treated the same as the spring brake portion however, it was also commented that the chamber will fall off eventually. After discussion, there were no motions to amend the criteria and the issue was closed leaving the loose chamber in the 20% criteria only and not addressing the non-manufactured holes. There was no imminent danger of the non-manufactured holes providing the brake is still operational and not leaking or ready to fall off. |
