| Medidas adoptadas por el comité | This issue was sent to the Vehicle Committee (VC) by the Passenger Carrier Committee (PCC) based on revisions previously approved by the PCC. The PCC had already voted to a change to add a diesel exhaust system leak condition to gasoline exhaust leaks to the OOS in 3.b. by removing ?or diesel engine? from the last sentence in the paragraph. The VC was asked to support the change and to consider similar revisions for other vehicles. The VC considered the fact that while there is a much lower level of CO in diesel exhaust, there are still enough toxic substances that a driver who was exposed to the exhaust fumes for any extended period was likely to become impaired due to illness. It was also discussed that this type of leak had been removed from the OOSC approximately 10 years ago based on the fact that a person will not die from CO fumes. The PCC provided information in regard to the dangers of CO fumes and after some discussion, the VC passed a motion to revise the section to address an exhaust leak that is combined with an entry point for all vehicles. The revised wording shown below incorporates the changes approved by the PCC and VC. Revised Wording: a.Any exhaust system leaking at a point forward of or directly below the driver/sleeper compartment and the vehicle has a condition that permits entry of exhaust fumes into the driver/sleeper compartment. (393.83(g)) b. Any bus exhaust system leaking or discharging under the chassis more than 6 inches (15.24cm) forward of the rear most part of the bus when powered by a gasoline engine, or more than 15 inches (38.1cm) forward of the rear most part of the bus when powered by other than a gasoline engine.
