The regulations require any modification, welding, drilling of holes, or repair of the frame to be done in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. This defect is not currently in the enhanced standard and should be added to Section 8.5.

The Enhanced CMV Inspection Standard needs to include any defect of the regulations to ensure the vehicle is not placed on the road in a condition that there would be a violation on a roadside inspection.

Add an in-transit defect to the Enhanced CMV Inspection Standard for any modification, welding, drilling of holes, or repair to the frame that is not in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. The Periodic CMV Standard should also be updated to reflect the same conditions.

The Enhanced Standard was updated by adding a defect for welded, modified, hole drilled in a flange, or repaired in a way that does not meet OEM Standard for Frame, Rails and Mounts.

The Periodic Standard was also amended to include hole drilled in flange as a defective condition of the frame.
