Hazardous Materials Instructor Training and Shipping Lithium Batteries Course

This course is for hazardous materials instructors who conduct training on Hazardous Materials Regulations for hazmat employees. Attendees will:  

  • Gain the knowledge and confidence to train hazmat employees on Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Subpart H in Part 172.  
  • Learn the step-by-step process and best practices for setting up a successful hazmat training program.  
  • Understand the employers’ responsibility to comply with the regulations and properly train employees. 
  • Learn about types of lithium batteries and common uses; lithium battery chemistry and safety; lithium battery classification in § 173.185, including exceptions; shipping papers, when required; marking; labeling; placarding; emergency response; incident investigation; materials of trade; and undeclared lithium battery shipments. 
  • View examples of lithium batteries and learn the step-by-step process for shipping lithium batteries. 

The course will include instruction, presentations, work projects, individual presentations, individual assignments and coursework, and a pre-test and post-test.
