Issue Name | OOSC Flipchart, Part II, Item 1a. Brakes - Amendment to 20 % Brake Criteria Flipchart |
Summary of Issue | The Level VI Out of Service Criteria has contradictory wording in Part II Items 1.a. and 1.b. based on the OOS requirements for Level VI. |
Justification or Need | An inspector that is not proficient in the Level VI Procedures could be easily be confused by reading the 2021 Level VI Out of Service Criteria. Several entries in the Level VI column contradict each other in Items 1.a. and 1.b. The information in Column 3 needs to be amended to reflect the actions taken during a Level VI inspection. |
Request for Action | The Level VI Program Committee needs to revise the Level VI column wording in Items 1.a. and 1.b. Also, the leaking brake chamber language needs to be edited as well as the external brake components. There is also a brake lining thickness of 1/8" that likely needs to be added to the steering axle brake section as well. |
Action Taken by Committee | The Level VI Inspection Program Committee agreed to amend the Level VI Specific column for the entire 20% brake criteria to clarify the “any defective brake” notation to more accurately reflect how it is dealt with during a Level VI Inspection. |
