NHTSA Extends Comment Period for Side Underride Guard ANPRM
On June 9, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)  the comment period for the Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) regarding side underride guards  on April 21. Comments are now due by July 20.

FMCSA Requests Comments on the “Safety Impacts of Human ADS Team Driving Applications” ICR
On June 8, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)  comments on its Information Collection Request (ICR) titled “Safety Impacts of Human Automated Driving System (ADS) Team Driving Applications,” which is a driving simulator study with a series of questionnaires that will quantify the safety implications of team driving applications between humans and ADS-equipped commercial motor vehicles. Comments are due by Aug. 7.

FMCSA Requests Comments on the “Hazardous Materials Safety Permits” ICR
Also on June 8, FMCSA  comments on the renewal of an existing ICR titled “Hazardous Materials Safety Permits,” which requires companies holding safety permits to develop communication plans that allow for the periodic tracking of hazardous materials shipments. This ICR has been updated to acknowledge the number of motor carriers with an active Hazardous Materials (HM) Safety Permit has increased from 987 to 1065. Comments are due by July 10.

PHMSA Proposes Amendments to Hazardous Materials Regulations for Harmonization with International Standards
On May 30, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)  comments on its notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to amend the Hazardous Materials Regulations to maintain alignment with international regulations and standards by adopting various amendments. Comments are due by July 31
