CVSA Testifies at House Hearing on the State of the Trucking Industry

On June 12, 2019, CVSA Past President Deputy Chief Mark Savage testified before the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subcommittee on Highways and Transit. The hearing, titled “Under Pressure: The State of Trucking in America,” was called to gather input from stakeholders on challenges facing the trucking industry. Deputy Chief Savage’s testimony focused on the need for clear and enforceable regulations and a more effective rulemaking process. The testimony stressed that the history of delays in official rulemaking has created inconsistencies between regulations, regulatory guidance and informal communications from the agency. In addition, he discussed the role that exemptions play in undermining safety and complicating the effective enforcement of safety regulations.
