On March 4, CVSA submitted comments on the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration’s (PHMSA) advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) for potential revisions to the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) to facilitate the safe transportation of hazardous materials using highly automated transportation systems. CVSA expressed strong support for policies that encourage development of ADS-related technology that can prevent or mitigate the severity of crashes, and communicated that it is critical that stakeholders have the opportunity to provide the agency with feedback and recommendations on how best to update the HMRs to ensure their safe integration into roadways.
