On Feb. 27, CVSA submitted comments on the American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) application for a five-year exemption to allow motor carriers that previously participated in FMCSA’s Safe Driver Apprenticeship Pilot program to continue onboarding and training drivers under the age of 21. CVSA recommended that FMCSA make the report and its supporting documentation available to the public for review and consideration, and also encouraged FMCSA to ensure components of the pilot program remain, such the safety technology requirements, reporting metrics and tools for law enforcement to verify participation in the program, if the agency were to grant the exemption request.
