On Feb. 1, 2021, CVSA submitted comments on the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) ANPRM on the framework for automated driver systems (ADS) safety. The notice seeks comments on a framework to define, assess and manage safety of ADS performance. CVSA’s comments encourage NHTSA to consider enforceability when establishing safety standards, highlight the importance of a universal electronic vehicle identifier on commercial motor vehicles and share inspection concepts of ADS-equipped commercial motor vehicles.
