U.S. Government Shutdown Possible, FMCSA Unimpacted

The U.S. Senate has been unable to pass funding legislation for the current fiscal year. HR 1968 was approved on March 11 by the House of Representatives. If an agreement is not reached by the end of today, March 14, the government will shut down due to a lapse of appropriations on March 15. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will continue to operate as normal, despite a lapse in annual appropriations. FMCSA is primarily funded by authorized contract authority through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and paid out of the Highway Trust Fund.
