U.S. Government Shutdown Likely, FMCSA Unimpacted

The U.S. Congress has been unable to pass funding legislation for the current fiscal year. If an agreement is not reached by end of day today, Dec. 20, the government will shut down due to a lapse in appropriations on Dec. 21. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will continue to operate as normal, despite a lapse in annual appropriations. FMCSA is primarily funded by authorized contract authority through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and paid out of the Highway Trust Fund.
