On June 8, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation held a hearing to consider the nomination of several positions at the U.S. Department of Transportation, including the nomination of FMCSA Deputy Administrator Robin Hutcheson to serve as administrator of FMCSA. During the hearing, Deputy Administrator Hutcheson expressed the value of the trucking and passenger-carrier industries and emphasized the importance of improving safety. To accomplish this, she shared a vision of increasing investigations of high-risk carriers, making investments in technology and closing registration loopholes to prevent unsafe drivers from being on the road. The committee has not announced when they will vote on advancing Deputy Administrator Hutcheson’s nomination. If they advance the nomination, it will then need to be approved by the full Senate.
