The U.S. Senate has not yet passed the remaining appropriations legislation for the current fiscal year. HR 7148 was approved on Jan. 22 by the U.S. House of Representatives. If the legislation is not approved by the end of today, Jan. 30, the government will enter a partial shut down due to a lapse of appropriations on Jan. 31. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will continue to operate as normal, despite a lapse in annual appropriations. FMCSA is primarily funded by authorized contract authority through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and paid out of the Highway Trust Fund.
