This afternoon, Congress passed a $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill that funds the government for the remainder of fiscal 2017, through the end of September. The bill provides for fiscal 2017 FAST Act level funding for MCSAP which includes $292,600,000 for the Basic MCSAP grant program and $42,200,000 for the High Priority grant program.
The omnibus bill also includes a policy provision of interest to the commercial motor vehicle safety community related to wireless roadside inspections. FMCSA is prohibited from implementing or testing its Wireless Roadside Inspection (WRI) program until the agency certifies that the WRI program will not interfere with private programs already in place.
The bill will next go to the President’s desk where it is expected to be approved and signed.
