Level VI Train the Trainer Course

Target Audience

The target audience is Class I Members only (state and provincial agency CVSA-certified Level VI inspectors).

Operational Policy

CVSA’s Operational Policy 4 – Inspector Training and Certification specifies that a certified Level VI Inspector must successfully complete eight hours of CVSA Level VI Refresher Training within 24 months of completing his/her Basic Level VI Training Course or the inspector’s last Level VI refresher training. This refresher training is conducted by the person who has attended and successfully completed the Level VI Train the Trainer Course every two years as specified in CVSA Operational Policy 6. If an inspector/officer does not complete the above requirement, his/her certification will be suspended. To become re-certified, the inspector will have to attend and successfully complete the Basic CVSA Level VI Training Course. As specified in CVSA Operational Policy 6, each state’s/province’s Level VI Train the Trainer certified inspector/officer must attend and successfully complete the Level VI Train the Trainer Course every two years.

Prerequisites

The prerequisites for the Level VI Train the Trainer Course are certification in North American Standard Level I Inspection and General Hazardous Materials/Dangerous Goods Inspection and the successful completion of a state/provincial approved instructor development course.

What to Expect

All training materials will be provided, including student workbooks, the Level VI Inspection Out-of-Service Criteria and training modules from the Basic Level VI Training Course. State/provincial Train the Trainer students will be required to provide training to fellow students and the Level VI national instructors and program director from an assigned Level VI training module. Instructor skills and subject matter knowledge will be evaluated. Train the Trainer students will also be given a subject matter knowledge test.

Covered Costs

Under the cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy Carlsbad Field Office, CVSA will cover the costs of all training materials. Members will be responsible to cover the costs of their staff’s travel, hotel and per diem.
