Federal Funding Expires at Midnight, Shutdown Possible

Funding for the federal government expires today at midnight. The government is currently operating under a continuing resolution, passed in December.

As of 5 p.m. this evening, Congressional leaders and the White House have been unable to come to an agreement on a funding bill.

On Thursday, the House passed another continuing resolution through Feb. 16, 2018. However, Senate leadership has not yet secured enough votes in support of the measure.

If a shutdown occurs, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will not be effected, as DOT has determined that the agency has sufficient funding on hand to continue operations for a short-term shutdown.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration would be impacted by a shutdown. However, emergency response, safety inspection and safety enforcement activities would continue.
